The Mapping Lab, part of the Structural Geology and Seismotectonics research group, is involved in the production of geological and structural cartography through advanced surveying and modelling techniques. Among the projects carried out, the laboratory has contributed to the realisation of the CARG Albenga sheet and is currently involved in the cartography of the Ormea, Savona and Pavia sheets. In addition, the future realisation of the Verbania, Salò and Piacenza sheets is planned. Activities include advanced geological surveying, 3D modelling and interpretation of seismic profiles, as well as the application of numerical models and computational geology. The laboratory also develops virtual environments for research and education, providing innovative tools for analysing and visualising geological data, with the aim of improving understanding of geodynamic processes and the structure of the Earth's crust.
Main instruments:
- High-performance workstations
- Software for 3D modelling (MOVE) and digital cartography (Q-GIS)
- echnological devices for terrain analysis (Tablets, GPS, Q-Field)
The Laboratory is equipped for:
Bachelor's theses, Doctoral theses, Teaching exercises for the Bachelor's degree course in Geological Sciences, Teaching exercises for the Master's degree course in Geosciences for Sustainable Development, Services for third parties with reference price list, Other services for third parties, Research grants
