The Laboratory of Fluid Inclusion Analysis and Thermochronolgy (LAIFT) is devoted to a number of analyses that allow to reconstruct the provenance, thermal history and diagenetic evolution of sediments, rocks and sedimentary basins. Specifically, tle lab is equipped for the following kinds of study: 1 - petrography and provenance of clastic sediments and rocks; 2 - petrography and timing of diagenetic events; 3 - petrography and microthermometry of fluid inclusions in diagenetic minerals; 4 - thermochronometry of sediments and sedimentary rocks through apatite fission track analysis; 5 - Diagenetic modelling of sedimentary sequences; 6 - modelling of the thermal history of sedimentary basins
Main instruments:
- Zeiss Axioplan petrographic microscope equipped with digital camera and mechanical stage for point-counting
- Olympus microscopes BX 51 and BX60 equipped with heating-cooling stages Linkam THMSG 600
- Olympus microscope BX 53 equipped with motorized stage, camera and PC with software for thermal modelling
- Olympus SZX16 stereo-microscope for crystal picking
