Activities performed:
Geotechnical characterization of soil and rock in the laboratory and on-site according to ASTM, BS, AASHTO, CNR-UNI, AFNOR standards and ISSMFE, ISRM, and AGI recommendations
Geotechnical and hydrological characterization of soils affected by shallow landslides and subsidence
Study of agricultural soil management techniques to increase the resilience of vineyards to extreme rainfall or drought events and reduce the incidence of shallow landslides and erosion phenomena, thus limiting structural damage to plants and the loss of organic matter
Study of the shear strength and deformability of loose rocks for slope stability and civil engineering works
Study of the swelling and shrinkage of clayey soils
On-site hydrological and geotechnical monitoring aimed at identifying the triggering mechanisms of shallow landslides
The laboratory is currently collaborating with Pagani Geotechnical Equipment Ltd. for the development of methodologies for interpreting CPTu and SCPTu penetrometer tests.
Laboratory Product Types:
Soil classification tests
Mechanical characterization tests
Shrinkage and swelling tests for clay soils
Linear shrinkage limit using digital calipers and digital images
Tests for determining water content and bulk weight (using undisturbed and immersed dies)
Tests for determining soil hydraulic properties in the laboratory and on-site
Slope monitoring using inclinometer measurements and hydrological and geotechnical monitoring stations
The Laboratory is equipped for:
Bachelor's theses, Doctoral theses, Teaching exercises for the Bachelor's Degree in Geological Sciences, Teaching exercises for the Master's Degree in Geosciences for Sustainable Development, Services for third parties with reference price list, Other Services for third parties, Bachelor's theses and teaching exercises as part of the MSc degree Civil Engineering For Natural Hazard Mitigation Of Risk From Natural Hazards, Teaching exercises as part of the Applied Geology course (Degree Course in Civil and Environmental Engineering).
