Headquarters: Orto Botanico, Via S. Epifanio 14 (first floor, room 41) e Banca del Germoplasma
The laboratory conducts research in the fields of long-term ex situ seed conservation, seed germination ecophysiology, and seed longevity (including accelerated aging, soil seed banks, and gene banks). The research also focuses on monitoring the impacts of climate change on native plant species and the propagation of rare or threatened species for conservation purposes, such as reintroduction programs.
Main instruments:
- Cooled incubators for germination studies,
- Growth chambers for plant propagation,
- Drying room (15°C and 15% RH) and deep-freezer (-18°C) for long-term seed storage,
- Stereo-microscopes,
- Precision balances,
- Data loggers for microclimatic monitoring
The Laboratory is equipped for: Bachelor's theses, Doctoral theses, Teaching exercises for the Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences and Technologies, Teaching exercises for the Master's Degree in Natural Sciences, Teaching exercises for the Master's Degree in Geosciences for Sustainable Development, Other services on behalf of third parties
