The Conservation Genetics Laboratory is dedicated to research projects aimed at the genetic, morphological, and nutritional characterization of traditional crop varieties. The techniques used include DNA extraction, amplification of molecular markers with electrophoretic separation in agarose gel, extraction and quantification of secondary metabolites, seed germination tests under standard conditions and with the application of abiotic stress, pollen germination tests, long-term conservation of samples (tissues and nucleic acids).
In addition to research activities, the laboratory hosts practical activities for the course “Conservation and Promotion of Plant Genetic Resources” within the Master's program in Agri-Food Sustainability, as well as thesis internships for this Master's program and for the Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences
Main instruments:
- freezer -80
- thermocycler
- centrifuge
- autoclave
- horizontal electrophoresis apparatus
- Dewar for liquid nitrogen storage
The Laboratory is equipped for: Bachelor's Theses, Doctoral Theses, and Teaching Assistants for the Master's Degree in Agri-Food Sustainability
