The complex and interdependent modern society poses continuous challenges to the scientific community for the realization of a fair and inclusive world in accordance with the objectives of Sustainable Development of the 2030 UN Agenda. For years, the department has been committed to both Research and Teaching to achieve these goals with a focus on the environmental and social pillars but without forgetting economics and ethics. We develop skills and technologies for the sustainable management of terrestrial environments, the sustainable use of resources, their responsible consumption and production, and the protection and conservation of both terrestrial and marine biospheres. Our researchers participate in about 60 projects funded by the European community and national public and private entities on topics in line with the Agenda. They offer more than 40 curricular courses, as well as international schools and cultural proposals, that are also open to citizens and secondary school students and teachers.
