The laboratory is dedicated to ecological studies in aquatic environments, both marine and freshwater, with a focus on biological invasions, also through citizen science and art-science approaches. In the marine environment, the studies are mostly focused on the taxonomic identification of biofouling organisms with a management approach. In freshwater environments, the laboratory is active in the assessment of ecological quality with bioindication approaches and on the eradication of invasive alien species. The laboratory performs biometric analyses, population dynamics, community analyses; univariate and multivariate statistical analyses; and image analyses on digital photographic material.
