ERC sectors: LS8_3 Conservation biology, LS8_4 Population biology, population dynamics, population genetics, LS8_6 Evolutionary ecology

Research topics

1) Development and optimization of monitoring methods for density and distribution estimates in species such as the Alpine ibex, the giant pangolin (PhD student: N. Matthews, University of Chester, UK), the wolf (PhD student: M.V. Boiani, University of Chester, UK), and the Indri (PhD student: V. Ferrario, University of Turin).

2) Use of integrated population dynamics models and species distribution models (SDMs) to model the spatial and temporal dynamics of ibex (PhD student: Matteo Panaccio, University of Chester, UK) and marmot populations in the Alps, and of the Indri in Madagascar.

3) Long-term studies on the behavior and life history of ibex (since 2000 in collaboration with Alice Brambilla, University of Zurich) and Alpine marmot (since 2006 in collaboration with Caterina Ferrari, Gran Paradiso National Park) in two study areas of the PNGP.

4) Use and development of causal inference methods (Structural Equation Models) to explicitly model direct and indirect effects on life history traits in various ecological and evolutionary systems. In collaboration with Alejandro Gonzalez-Voyer (UNAM, Mexico).
