Research topics

1. Dendroecology and Forest Ecology

Tree rings are used to study forest dynamics, the history of natural and anthropogenic disturbances, plant-animal relationships, intra- and interspecific competition, and forest management and decline.

2. Dendroclimatology and Climate Change

Through the analysis of tree rings from various forest species, we study the responses of tree growth to major climatic factors, both in terms of long-term variations and extreme events, with particular attention to their alterations due to climate change.

3. Dendroanatomy and Ecophysiological Characteristics

The anatomical characterization of tree rings (dendronatomy) is used to study the ecophysiological response of trees to the main climatic factors that influence growth.

4. Dendrochronology, Dating, and Climate Reconstructions

Centuries-old chronologies of various forest species are used to reconstruct past climates, and some are used to date wooden works of art and historical musical instruments.
